Anti-Ragging Policy

“Ragging is a Criminal Offense. Ragging is Strictly Prohibited.”

Vikram Sarabhai Institute of Engineering and Technology follows a Zero Tolerance Policy towards ragging, physical abuse, mental harassment, intimidation, or any form of misconduct that affects the dignity and well-being of students.

The institute strongly advocates psychological safety, mutual respect, inclusivity, and a healthy academic environment for every student.

The institution strictly complies with all guidelines and regulations issued by the UGC, State Government, and Central Government for the prevention and prohibition of ragging.

Our objective is to ensure an educational environment free from intimidation, humiliation, harassment, or abuse so that every student can grow academically and personally with confidence and dignity.

What Constitutes Ragging?

Ragging includes any act that causes or is likely to cause:

  • Physical or psychological harm
  • Fear, embarrassment, or humiliation
  • Harassment or intimidation
  • Verbal abuse or bullying
  • Forced activities or misconduct
  • Emotional distress or social isolation

Any such act inside or outside the campus premises will be treated as a serious disciplinary and criminal offense.

Consequences of Ragging

Any student found involved in ragging activities may face strict disciplinary and legal action, including:

  • Filing of a formal complaint by the affected student
  • Initial review by the Anti-Ragging Committee
  • Appointment of an investigating authority
  • Issuance of written notice to the parties involved
  • Submission of written explanation by the respondent
  • Investigation and inquiry by the Anti-Ragging Committee
  • Suspension from classes or hostel facilities
  • Rustication or expulsion from the institution
  • Filing of FIR with local police authorities
  • Any other disciplinary action deemed appropriate by the institution

Anti-Ragging Committee

Vikram Sarabhai Institute of Engineering and Technology has established a dedicated Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad to ensure effective implementation of anti-ragging regulations and continuous monitoring of student safety across the campus.

The committee actively works to:

  • Prevent ragging incidents
  • Promote awareness among students
  • Ensure compliance with anti-ragging laws
  • Provide support to affected students
  • Maintain a safe and respectful learning environment

Institutional Procedure for Handling Ragging Complaints

1. Legal Assessment

The Head of the Institution will determine whether the reported incident constitutes a cognizable offense under applicable laws.

2. Filing of FIR

If the incident qualifies as a punishable offense, an FIR shall be lodged with the police or concerned local authorities.

3. Internal Inquiry

Simultaneously, the institution will conduct an independent and detailed inquiry into the matter through the Anti-Ragging Committee.

4. Immediate Disciplinary Action

Appropriate disciplinary action will be initiated against the accused student(s) based on the findings of the inquiry.

5. Emergency Committee Meeting

The Anti-Ragging Committee will convene within 24 hours of receiving information regarding the incident to evaluate the matter and recommend suitable action.

Fair and Time-Bound Resolution

Vikram Sarabhai Institute of Engineering and Technology is committed to ensuring a fair, transparent, and prompt resolution of every reported case.

  • The inquiry process shall begin immediately upon receiving a complaint.
  • All investigations will be conducted in accordance with the principles of natural justice.
  • The inquiry shall ordinarily be completed within seven days from the date of reporting.

Responsibilities of the Anti-Ragging Committee

  • Conduct impartial and transparent investigations
  • Provide fair hearing opportunities to all parties involved
  • Examine all evidence and witness statements carefully
  • Ensure confidentiality and protection of complainants
  • Submit a detailed report with recommendations to the Head of the Institution
